Mara Adler O’Kelly's and Giulia Utz's story could be called the “You've Got Mail” of music teaching. In December 2015, while Mara prepares for her maternity leave from her voice teaching position at St. Paul's Choir School in Englewood, NJ, Giulia gets ready to take over her students; the two meet in person only the following June. In March 2016, while each teacher alternates weekly teaching days, the fruits of an invaluable relationship are sown, not by meeting face-to-face, but by being in awe of the sounds coming out of their mutual students' mouths since they began tag-team teaching. By June, the St. Paul's students are improving their sounds, and can read music like pros, and put on a recital that moves the audience to tears! The Mara-Giulia Super-Teacher is officially formed!

Fast-forward to September 2016, Mara and Giulia meet for coffee to break down the mechanics of this super-teacher. They find, not only do they share the same love for coffee, but that they each of strengths and similarities as teachers that go together like Espresso and Milk and that. Giulia teaches her students a fail-proof breathing method, while Mara focuses on resonance and vocal projection. Voilà: super-teachers, creating super-students!

Her approach is student-centered and tailored to fit each student’s individual learning style. Mara holds a Master’s degree in Music Education from Columbia University and a Music Degree from the Oberlin Conservatory. She is the Music Program Director at Harmony Daycare Center in Irvington New Jersey and has helped develop several successful children’s’ choir programs throughout the state.
